I'm sorry.  I should have been more clear.
I'm familiar with the USPTO patent and trademark registration 
process.  I'm also aware that trademarks need not be registered to 
be enforced.  What I am unclear on is what the remediation process 
is for trademark violations in social media.  Specifically, can you 
use a DMCA takedown notice to compel a social media site to take 
down trademark infringing material?  If not, then what?

I know this is a legal question that I'm posting to a tech list but 
I was hoping someone might have had some experience with this issue.
