Almost anything that is important runs in a browser these days. Thus, as
long as the OS runs Firefox we should be in good shape.
I would argue that Ubuntu is much more user friendly than Windows XP, and
much like the Occupy movement, can raise awareness of collaborative
alternatives to authoritarian software.
