Are you interested in working for the non-profit organization that runs
Wikipedia? Are you interested in leading teams of volunteers and
developing Wikipedia's use as an innovative teaching tool in higher
education classes? If so, the Wikimedia Foundation wants you!
The Wikimedia Foundation - the San Francisco-based non-profit
organization that operates Wikipedia - officially announced a new job
opening last week - the "*U.S. Education Program Associate*," which will
be a full-time 12-month contract position starting as soon as
possible. Beginning in fall 2010 with the pilot project "Public Policy
Initiative," the Wikimedia Foundation has been working with educators
across the United States to incorporate Wikipedia-editing into the class
as an innovative teaching tool. The Foundation provides these professors
with a variety of support resources, including instructional videos,
sample syllabi, and "Wikipedia Ambassadors" who mentor students both
in-person and online. Due to the success of the Public Policy
Initiative, the Wikimedia Foundation is now expanding the program to all
academic disciplines and more countries. We have launched the program in
India and will expand to Brazil and other countries in 2012; at the same
time, we will need to continue facilitating the growth and improvement
of activities within the United States.
We've already built up solid volunteer leadership in the U.S., and we're
now looking for a person who will support and mentor these volunteer
leaders, working through them to grow the U.S. wing of the Global
Education Program both quantitatively and qualitatively. The U.S.
Education Program Associate will be an integral part of the Global
Education Program staff.
I would like to warmly encourage you to apply for this position.
Preference will be given to applicants who have demonstrated success as
a team coordinator and leader. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply
as well. You should especially apply if you're interested in any of the

* Developing yourself professionally and personally: our explicit
intention with the U.S. Education Program Associate position is to
provide substantial professional mentorship to the person who
occupies it. We want you to grow on this job - as a team
coordinator, a leader, a problem-solver - and will help you with that!
* Introducing an innovative, real-world teaching approach to more
